The Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change is a British government cabinet position currently held by The Rt Hon. Ed Miliband MP. The government department was created on 3 October 2008 when the Prime Minister reshuffled his cabinet.

The Energy and Climate Change Secretary is a new cabinet post, but revives the earlier post of Secretary of State for Energy as head of the Department of Energy, existing from 1974 to 1992. The department was merged into the Department of Trade and Industry in 1992 under the Conservative government of Sir John Major. Immediately prior to the creation of the new Department of Energy and Climate Change, energy policy was the responsibility of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
